Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham are leading the prosecution against Lindsay Clancya mother from Duxbury, who is charged with the murder of her three young children in 2023.
Clancy, 36, faces allegations of murdering her 5-year-old daughter Cora, her 3-year-old son Dawson, and her 8-month-old son Callan in January of that year. Sprague and Buckingham contend that Clancy used exercise bands to strangle the children in the basement of their Duxbury residence while her husband, Patrick Clancywas away running errands.

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, has maintained that she was overmedicated and lacked the capacity for criminal responsibility due to her mental health conditions, such as postpartum depression and psychosis. She became paralyzed after jumping from a second-story window on the night the children were killed.
Sprague and Buckingham serve as assistant district attorneys (ADAs) for the Commonwealth, representing the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office.

Who is Jennifer Sprague?
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague has been employed at the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office since December 2003, as stated on her LinkedIn profile.
Her profile indicates that she has participated in 28 homicide trials and over 40 Superior Court cases related to sexual assault, firearms, narcotics, and domestic violence, in addition to handling hundreds of District Court cases.
Sprague obtained her bachelor’s degree in political science from Bridgewater State University in 1999 and later earned her Juris Doctorate from New England Law Boston in 2003.
She was officially admitted to the Massachusetts Bar on December 12, 2003, as recorded by the state’s Board of Bar Overseers.
Throughout the trial, Sprague has introduced various pieces of physical evidence, such as the children’s pajamas and the pill bottles that were prescribed to Clancy.
Who is Shanan Buckingham?
Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham has been employed at the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office since 2011, as per her LinkedIn profile.
She holds the position of chief of the Family Protection Unit within the district attorney’s office, according to her profile.
Buckingham obtained her bachelor’s degree in political science from Stonehill College in 2003 and later received her Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011.
On November 14, 2011, she was admitted to the Massachusetts bar, as reported by the state’s Board of Bar Overseers.
During the prosecution’s opening statement on July 27, Buckingham highlighted Cora, Clancy’s 5-year-old daughter, and her fondness for wearing large bows in her hair. Throughout the trial, Buckingham has also sported several bows in her own hair.
