Mrinank Sharma, Anthropic’s head of AI security, recently announced his departure from the company in a tweet.

“I constantly find myself thinking about our situation. The world is in danger. We seem to be approaching a threshold where our intelligence must grow in equal measure with our ability to impact the world, or we will face the consequences,” Sharma said in his post.

Who is Fan Xiao?

According to his LinkedIn profile, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Stanford University. He also holds a PhD in machine learning from Carnegie Mellon University.

He started his career as a research intern at Baidu US and then found a job at Google Artificial Intelligence. In 2024, he joined Elon Musk’s xAI and worked there for about a year. He joined his current company, OpenAI, in 2025 and has been working there for 7 months.
