Reddit post says about visa delays

The Reddit user acknowledged that many applicants, including doctors, had been affected by visa delays and processing issues, but argued that they were “caught in the crossfire.”

According to the post, authorities became more aggressive in enforcing immigration rules after the user described years of abuses involving immigrants. H-1B schemes, alleged student visa fraud, and practices such as first-day CPT registration and pursuing multiple master’s degrees to extend their stay in the United States.

“There is a lot of fraud and corruption in H-1B, basically coming from the IT field,” the user wrote. At the same time, the user also claimed that officials are paying close attention to whether the applicant’s activities are consistent with the purpose stated in his DS-160 visa application.

The Reddit user concluded that a “sledgehammer approach” had now been adopted after decades of what they considered poor execution.

Reddit users debate India’s role

The post sparked widespread discussion, with some commenters expressing differing views on the reasoning behind increased visa scrutiny.

One user argued that authorities had stepped up oversight due to years of alleged abuse of the visa program, claiming efforts were focused on preventing abuse rather than imposing broader travel restrictions.

Another commenter said that applicants from countries considered to have previously experienced high levels of visa abuse now face greater scrutiny during the visa process, while another wrote that India is part of a broader problem.

These comments represent the opinions expressed by Reddit users and have not been independently verified.

US visa delays and technical outages

The discussion comes weeks after widespread technical issues disrupted U.S. visa processing for applicants from India and several other countries.

Previously, USTravelDocs, the main platform used by the U.S. Consulate in India to pay visa fees and schedule interviews, experienced chronic technical issues affecting applicants across multiple visa categories, including B1/B2, F-1, H-1B, and immigrant visas.

The issues reportedly resulted in failed payments, login errors and interruptions in appointment scheduling amid high demand for visas. The U.S. State Department acknowledged the problems and said it was working to resolve them.
