Pokemon Champions launches on Nintendo Switch on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 for an intense experience Pokémon Combat reaches a whole new level. In addition to the base game, a special Pokemon Champions + Starter Pack bundle will also be released on the same day.
What is Pokemon Champion
Pokemon Champions is a battle-focused game that uses the same classic features that fans already know, such as Pokémon Types, abilities and actions. These can help players develop different strategies during combat. You can choose to compete seriously in Ranked Battles or have fun in Casual Battles, depending on your preference.
Pokemon Champions: Bundles, Graphics, and Mobile
A Pokemon Champions + Starter Pack bundle will also be available on launch day. According to the official website, it includes the main game as well as some useful in-game bonuses such as extra Pokemon storage, extra battle songs, and more.
Players using Nintendo Switch 2 will also receive a free update that will make the game look sharper and have better graphics.
A mobile version of Pokemon Champions is also in development. Thanks to cross-platform play, players on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will be able to battle each other.
In addition, “Pokemon Champions” will be connected to Pokemon HOME, allowing players to introduce certain Pokemon from past games in the series as well as Pokemon GO and team up with them to battle.

Pokemon Champions: New Mega Evolutions and Abilities
One of the biggest highlights of Pokemon Champions is the arrival of three powerful Mega Evolutions, all of which originally appeared in Pokemon Legends: ZA.
Mega Meganium has a new ability called Mega Sol, which allows it to use its moves like the sun’s glare when the weather is always there, giving it an advantage in combat.
Mega Emboar has the ability to break molds, which allows its actions to ignore the opponent’s abilities, so defensive effects won’t stop it.
Mega Feraligatr has a newfound ability called Dragonize. Transform normal moves into dragon moves, increasing their power by 20%, making you a powerful attacker in battle.
What Pokemon Champion means for competitive players
The Video Game Championship (VGC) will use Pokemon Champions as the primary platform for all competitive matches starting on April 8, 2026.
The Indianapolis Pokémon Regional Championship will be the first official live event exclusively featuring Pokémon Champions. The competition will be held from May 29th to May 31st, and players can register from April 1st.
Pokémon Championship will also be used for all major future Ultra Events, including the North American International Championships from June 12 to June 14 and the Pokémon World Championships from August 28 to August 30.
