Multiple sclerosis is a disease that causes the degeneration of the protective sheath around nerves.

The disease causes symptoms such as numbness, weakness, difficulty walking, vision changes and a variety of other effects.

Janice Dean says there’s no cure for multiple sclerosis

“For a long time, I was able to cope with early mornings, long walks and the stress of being on-air,” Dean Elaborate. “It’s difficult to wake up at 2:30 in the morning and do anything, especially for someone with multiple sclerosis.”

“For those living with MS, the war is within us. We may look fine, but our immune system is attacking the brain, spinal cord, and sometimes even the optic nerve. We are left with permanent scars that can only be seen on an MRI,” she said.

Dean expressed gratitude for her early diagnosis and mentioned that she has received various treatments over the past two decades. However, she noted that there is no cure for MS, and her symptoms gradually worsened over time.

“Unfortunately, sleep deprivation and stress were the biggest triggers, and I was increasingly feeling the effects of my own limitations,” she said.

Dean said she will miss “a lot of things” about her role, with her “favorite part” being the opportunity to interact face-to-face with the audience.
