On Monday (April 20), HPD acknowledged the video, which was shared on social media by an anonymous user, and said they were investigating. HPD has not confirmed if the person in the video is indeed Ashley Gonzalez, but added that she will be relieved of duty pending the completion of the investigation.

She said: “I will always and forever say I fucking hate ******. Oh my God, I fucking hate ******. Like I hate all of you, like I don’t know we’re fucking slaves, it’s not like I don’t care ****** because you guys are fucking slaves for a fucking reason.
“You guys don’t know what’s better than fucking stealing, oh my gosh, like I’m actually eating fucking food with my friends.”
She then allegedly went on to describe the incident, using a racist slur multiple times in the process.
After the video surfaced, the Houston police union issued a statement calling Gonzalez’s comments “racist” and “offensive.” They described the video as “disturbing”.
“The HPOU or its leadership will never condone or condone racist behavior by any of our officers,” the statement read. “The Houston Police Department prides itself on being the most diverse police department in the country, which is in large part a product of the HPOU and the department’s collaborative changes to civil service law through our meetings and consultation process. We believe the department is working to confirm the authenticity of the video and will take appropriate steps to ensure public confidence and trust in our department and between the community.”
