‘Welcome, Modi’: Jerusalem Post front page as PM kicks off two-day visit to Israel | India News

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the front page of Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday (local time) ahead of his visit to Israel.The newspaper’s editor-in-chief Zvika Klein shared the front page, which shows a photo of Prime Minister Modi waving, along with a feature story about his visit and India-Israel relations. One headline read “Welcome, Modi” while another read “New Delhi’s burgeoning partnership with Jerusalem”.Prime Minister Modi has left for Israel and will address the Knesset.The edition also spoke to JP Singh, India’s envoy to Israel, who stressed the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s planned address to Parliament. “One of the most important factors is that he will be the first Indian prime minister to address parliament,” the Jerusalem Post quoted Singh as saying.

Singh said the goal is to expand and deepen bilateral relations beyond a few limited areas to form a more comprehensive framework, including financial cooperation, trade and cross-border payments, and may work on the financial system and remittance infrastructure in the future.ALSO READ | ‘Ties will be strengthened’: PM Modi sets off for Israel – what’s on the agendaThe visit, at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will be PM Modi’s second visit to Israel after his landmark visit in 2017, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country. Reflecting on the importance of the visit, Netanyahu called it “historic” and described Prime Minister Modi as a “dear friend.” “This morning, at the opening of our Cabinet meeting, I spoke about my dear friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Israel next Wednesday,” he said.During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Netanyahu will review the progress of the India-Israel strategic partnership and discuss cooperation in science and technology, innovation, defense and security, agriculture, water management, economy and trade, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields. Prime Minister Modi will also call on Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
