Trump health update: White House reveals behind-the-scenes trick in handling president’s strange sleep schedule

Susie Wiles, Chief of Staff to the President Donald Trumphas revealed how advanced White House Aides manage the president’s unusual sleep schedule and late-night work habits behind the scenes.

Wiles spoke at Thursday’s Independent Women’s Gala and discussed the challenges of operating in a White House running what she called “Trump time,” the Mirror reported.

“I’m not one of those people who doesn’t need sleep, I actually need a lot of it,” Wiles, 68, said as he explained how staff members adapt to the president’s around-the-clock schedule.

Trump’s habit of posting late at night on Truth Social and staying active at night has long fueled curiosity about how much sleep he actually gets.

Wiles said the government had developed an informal system to ensure staff could handle heavy workloads while getting rest.

“I went to bed early, and Dan Scavino, who I’m sure a lot of you know is a night owl, we slept separately,” she explained. “I got early calls and Dan got late calls.”

Wiles added that the arrangement evolved over the years to help aides cope with the president’s unconventional schedule. “That’s what we’ve done for several years, making sure we all get enough sleep, even if the president doesn’t,” she said.

Scavino later appeared to joke about the remarks by posting a video of the owl on X.

‘People make sacrifices’

During the event, Wiles also pushed back against what she said were misconceptions about life in the White House.

“We work hard, a lot of people make sacrifices, they have young families, they have marriages trying to stay intact,” she said, according to the Mirror.

She described the emotional and physical toll of long hours, saying employees often endured “18-hour days, seven, 13 and 21 days.”

“It takes a little time,” she added.

Trump’s sleeping habits

Trump’s sleep schedule has been publicly discussed by several aides over the years. CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins previously claimed in a podcast that Trump often stayed awake during the Air Force One trip and might even wake staff to continue talking.

former attorney general Pam Bundy “None of us know when he goes to bed,” he said last year.

Trump himself has joked about his sleeping habits. He appeared to briefly close his eyes during a televised cabinet meeting earlier this year, but he dismissed the speculation, saying the meeting had simply become “a bit boring”.

“I didn’t sleep, by the way,” Trump added. “I don’t get much sleep.”
