New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) workers put up posters across Patna on Sunday, appealing Nishant Kumar, son Nitish KumarNews of the veteran leader becoming the “future chief minister of Bihar” after his transfer to the Union House has triggered fresh political discussions in the state. The posters, put up by “Nitish sevaks” in the early hours of the morning, urged Nishant Kumar to become active in politics, describing him as a “youth leader” and calling on him to “come out of the shadows”. The poster read: “We don’t need bulldozers, we don’t need riots in Bihar. We need young Jansevak… It’s time he comes out of the shadows.”
Although there are speculations that Nishant Kumar may be made deputy chief minister, no official announcement has been made so far.
Nitish Kumar’s transition to the Lok Sabha marks a major shift in Bihar’s political landscape. On April 10, he was sworn in as a member of Parliament, fulfilling his long-term goal of serving in various legislative bodies in India. He also resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council, effectively paving the way for a new leadership structure in the state. The move is seen as handing greater control of the state government to the Bharatiya Janata Party in the NDA alliance, marking a tectonic shift ahead of the upcoming political contest.Responding to the poster campaign, Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh refuted the speculation, saying: “Putting up posters does not make someone the chief minister… Now that he is gone, whoever remains in the party plays a role,” news agency ANI reported.
Despite resigning as chief minister, JD(U) leaders have maintained that Nitish Kumar continues to play a central role in Bihar’s governance. Party president Sanjay Kumar Jha said the government will function under Nitish’s guidance and continue to implement his policies.Highlighting his legacy, Jha said the party was built through “honesty and sacrifice” and stressed that Nitish Kumar’s influence among the people of Bihar remained intact. These developments come at a time when Bihar politics is entering a new phase, where leadership issues continue to arise despite the national development agenda aimed at maintaining stability in the state.
