'We are ashamed': Accused Harsh Singh apologizes for racial slur against three Arunachal women in Delhi

New Delhi: Harsh Singh publicly apologized on Tuesday after allegations that he racially vilified and intimidated three women from Arunachal Pradesh in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. The incident, which went viral on social media, stemmed from a dispute over maintenance work at a woman’s rental apartment on February 20.“We are cooperating fully with the Delhi Police and we have full confidence that the police and the Indian judiciary are with us and will clear the air through a fair investigation,” Singh told reporters. “We are absolutely ashamed. I am not such a person but it was in the heat of the moment.” We have no intention of doing so. I would like to ask social media users to hear both sides of the story. I personally apologize to all Northeastern people.“He further explained the circumstances that led to the clash, “Our property was attacked and one of my men was about to be attacked. The situation escalated further when the woman came. Please do not have a media trial. We will accept any punishment. I received obscene photos of my mother on social media. Our family and career should not be dragged into this.”The dispute started around 3.30 pm on February 20 when three women living on the fourth floor of a rented apartment in Malviya Nagar called an electrician to install the air conditioner. During the work, dust and debris from the drilling fell onto the floor below, causing objections from Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, who lived in the apartment below.A case under sections 79, 351(2), 3(5) and 196 of the Indian Code (BNS) was registered at the Malviya Nagar police station against Harsh Singh, a resident of Malviya Nagar, and his wife Ruby Jain, police said. On Wednesday, police arrested Ruby Jain in connection with the incident.
