A tornado warning sounded in Wayne County, Michigan, and residents of Dearborn, Tyler, Southgate and Allen Park were urged to take shelter amid the tornado warning.

Residents received the following alert from the National Weather Service (NWS) on their cell phones:

“A tornado warning is in effect for the area until 7:00 PM ET. Take shelter now in a basement or indoor room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or vehicle, move to the nearest sturdy shelter to protect yourself from flying debris.”

A tornado warning is in effect for central Wayne County, Michigan until 6:15 p.m. ET.

According to a National Weather Service alert, a severe thunderstorm is possible at 5:55 p.m. ET tornado Located over Romulus, moving northeast at 45 mph.

The storm is expected to affect:

Tyler, Romulus, Dearborn, Wyandotte and Greenfield villages around 6:00 p.m. ET

Other areas: Inkster, Wayne, Melvindale, Ecorse, Allen Park, Dearborn Heights, Lincoln Park, Garden City, Southgate and Westland

Residents are urged to stay indoors and shelter in a safe place until the warning is lifted.
