Warner Robins High School shooting reports: Police respond amid active shooter claims- what we know

Update: Officials with the Warner Robins Police Department confirmed that a 14-year-old ninth-grader is in custody after having injured a fellow student. The injured student has been taken to a hospital, and their condition is currently unknown.

The suspect fled the school compound after the incident before being arrested by the police in a nearby neighborhood.

Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton said that initial investigations revealed that two ninth-grade students got into an argument that flared. One of the students took out a gun and fired a shot.

“Fortunately, what could have been a much worse incident was minimized to us only having one student injured,” Sheriff Moulton added.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office posted an update on its social media channels asking residents to avoid the area of the Warner Robins High School. The department confirmed that there is a significant presence of law enforcement “due to a shooting on campus.”

“Please avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow first responders to safely perform their duties,” the update from Sheriff Matt Moulton added. “No further information is available at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

According to Scanner Reports, the Warner Robins Police Department and other first responders are at the school on 401 South Davis Drive. A perimeter has been set up around the school, the reports suggest.

The scanners broadcast further indicated that one victim may have been shot in the leg, and police are currently looking for a suspect.

It is unclear if the scene is active and whether the suspect is cordoned off inside the school. As of now, authorities have not given an All-Clear.

Warner Robins High School is a historic public high school that serves students in grades 9–12. The school opened in 1944 and currently serves more than 1,600 students under Houston County Schools. The school is known for their excellent football program, the Warner Robins Demons.
