Virat Kohli became the first batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to complete 9,000 runs as Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.Kohli, who needed only 11 runs to start the game, reached the milestone by hitting a single off Axar Patel on the last ball of the sixth over.The RCB batsman is the highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament and has now become the first player to touch the 9,000-run mark.Before the game, Kohli had scored 8989 runs in 274 games and 266 innings, with an average of 39.95, a strike rate of 133.76, 8 centuries and 66 50s. His highest IPL score remains 113 not out.Kohli has also been one of the most consistent batsmen for RCB this season. Before the match against Delhi Capitals, he was sixth with 328 runs in seven games at an average of 54.66 and a strike rate of 162.18, including three fifties and a best of 81.Kohli continues to be RCB’s most reliable batsman when chasing down the target.Since the 2023 IPL season, he has fallen into single digits only once in 21 chases, scoring 1087 runs at an average of 72.46 with a strike rate of 155.5 and 11 fifties with one century.He has scored over 600 runs in each of the last three IPL seasons since 2023 and is on track to score over 600 runs for a fourth consecutive season.Earlier in the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals by 75 runs, their lowest score of the season, in an IPL match on Monday.The pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5) and Josh Hazlewood (4/12), who chose to bowl, shared seven wickets while Rasikh Salam Dar (1/21) and Syuash Sharma (1/7) also contributed.For D.C., Abishek Porel (30 points), David Miller (19 points) and Kyle Jamieson (12 points) went eight-for-six from the field in the fourth round to contribute some decent points to the total.
