Two EA-18G Growler jets collided and crashed in mid-air during the Gunners Sky display two miles from Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.
Officials said emergency crews responded to the incident and the air base was placed on lockdown after the incident.
Several videos of plane crashes have appeared online, showing the planes colliding in mid-air and then crashing to the ground with four parachutes opening in the air.
A spokesman for Mountain Home Air Force Base told Reuters the base was investigating a plane collision that occurred outside the base early Sunday.
A spokesman said: “Emergency crews have rushed to the scene and investigations are ongoing. More details will be announced as they become available.”
The Associated Press reported that no other information about the incident was available at this time, citing a person who answered the phone in the 366th Fighter Wing’s public affairs office.
The Gunners Sky air show includes flight demonstrations and skydiving, celebrating aviation history and showcasing modern military capabilities.
The air base is home to the U.S. Air Force’s 366th Fighter Wing, nicknamed the “Gunners.” Mountain Home Air Force Base includes three fighter squadrons – the 389th Fighter Squadron Thunder or T-Bolts, the 391st Fighter Squadron Tigers and the Republic of Singapore’s 428th Fighter Squadron Corsairs.
