Iran says it will target all ports in and near Iran persian gulf If its own shipping hub is threatened, the standoff in the strait, which Tehran controls during much of the conflict, could intensify.
The notice stated that the U.S. blockade would cover Iran’s entire coastline, including the coastline east of the Strait of Hormuz.
It also said it would not block neutral ships from transiting Hormuz if they were traveling to and from non-Iranian destinations. The vessels may still be searched for prohibited cargo.
The United States also said it would allow humanitarian shipments, including food, medical supplies and other items critical to civilian survival, subject to inspections.
When contacted for comment, U.S. Central Command said it had nothing to add to the statement issued Sunday.
