The US Embassy has announced details of the prestigious Fulbright Foreign Student Program for 2027, inviting applications from students across the UAE. Qualified candidates, including students and professionals, can apply for the upcoming version of the program for a chance to win scholarships at universities across the United States.
What is the Fulbright Program?
The program, called the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, is a flagship international academic exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. According to organizers, it works with more than 160 countries around the world to provide opportunities to learn, research and contribute to solving complex global challenges. Participants, often described as the “best and brightest” from their home societies, will be invited to study or conduct research at a U.S. university or other accredited educational institution for a year or more.
What does the program cover?
The program provides funding for tuition and other required fees and a monthly stipend to cover reasonable living expenses, as well as a limited health insurance plan for the duration of the program.
Who can apply?
Contestants are selected through an open, merit-based competition that considers variables such as leadership potential, academic achievement and ability to adapt to life in the United States, according to the official website.Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents holding a Khulasat Al-Qayd passport in the United Arab Emirates and must reside in the UAE throughout the process from application to placement. They must have a strong academic background and the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. They must also be proficient in English or be able to attend a Long-term English (LTE) course before the start of their academic program.
Eligible fields of study
Applicants are invited from areas of study such as the humanities, social sciences, science, technology and engineering, as well as non-clinical programs such as public health and nursing. Graduates of clinical research majors such as medicine and nursing are not allowed.
Documents required for application
The following documents are required when submitting:
- Original academic transcripts and their certified translations
- TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score (if available)
- Resume mentions all previous education and work experience
- Three letters of recommendation
- Personal statement should not exceed 600 words in length
- Statement of research or research objectives
- Emirates ID card or passport with Khulasat Al-Qayd stamped on it
- Certificate of degree completion or copy of diploma
