New Delhi: India on Saturday expressed deep concern over the conflict in West Asia triggered by the early morning bombing of Iran by the US and Israel.In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged that “dialogue and diplomatic means should be used to ease tensions and resolve underlying issues.” The statement said: “India is deeply concerned about recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all parties to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritize the safety of civilians. Our missions in the region are in touch with Indian nationals and have issued appropriate advisories asking them to remain vigilant, stay connected with their missions and follow local security guidance.”Just hours earlier, the Indian embassy issued a warning urging its citizens in Iran and Israel to “exercise extreme caution and vigilance.” “The State of Israel has launched a pre-emptive strike against Iran. Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared a special and immediate national emergency,” a Defense Department statement said.As the situation escalated, sirens were sounded across Israel and citizens received phone alerts warning of an “extremely serious” threat.The Indian Embassy in Tehran advises Indian nationals to exercise caution and restrict movement.The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv also issued another advisory saying, “Given the current security situation in the region, all Indian nationals in Israel are advised to exercise a high degree of caution and remain vigilant at all times.”The embassy urges Indian nationals to strictly adhere to security guidelines issued by the Israeli authorities and Home Front Command, the statement said.Israel and the United States launched daylight attacks on Iran on Saturday, closing the window for a diplomatic solution to Tehran’s long-running nuclear dispute with the West.The attack reportedly took place near the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, the 86-year-old leader is not in Tehran and has been moved to a safe location during the attack.
