Mass shooting near university, five injured Iowa A serious brawl broke out on campus early Sunday. Police have released images of five “persons of interest” in connection with the incident.

A “Hawk Alert” notification on the University of Iowa’s emergency updates webpage confirmed that the Ped Mall had reopened at 12 noon local time on April 19. While there is no known ongoing threat to the public, the investigation is ongoing.
The public university’s Office of Strategic Communications subsequently released a statement to the community regarding the shooting incident in Iowa City on April 19. The statement initially confirmed that three University of Iowa students were injured in the incident. University President Barb Wilson said the institution is in close communication with local law enforcement.
“As we await more information, I am thinking of these students, their families, friends and everyone who cares about them. My thoughts are with them and everyone in our community who is hurting or shocked right now,” the statement said. “Moments like this can be overwhelming. They can make a large campus suddenly feel very small. Many of you may be worried, upset, or unsure how to process what happened. Please know that you are not alone.”
