A United Airlines flight bound for New York was forced to make an emergency diversion to Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday after crew members reported a possible security threat on board.According to the “Guardian” report, Flight 2092 took off from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and was originally intended to fly to LaGuardia Airport, but changed its route in mid-air. After landing, passengers used emergency slides to evacuate, and videos shared online showed the plane parked on the tarmac with the slides deployed.
‘Beep’ sparks bomb scare
The initial concerns stemmed from “possible safety issues,” as described by U.S. aviation authorities. The crew noticed a “beeping sound” during the flight, prompting them to treat the situation as a potential bomb threat.“We have to start treating this as a potential bomb…it’s a continuous, once-a-second beep,” one crew member is heard saying on cockpit audio.The Boeing 737 aircraft, carrying 159 passengers and six crew members, landed safely and no injuries were reported.
FBI, bomb squad sweep plane
Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, responded to the scene along with local police and bomb squads. Explosive ordnance disposal teams and sniffer dogs conducted a thorough search of the aircraft, passengers and luggage.Authorities later confirmed that the scans returned “negative results,” indicating no explosive device was found.Officials subsequently cleared the aircraft and airport operations continued without interruption.Passengers were rebooked on alternative flights to New York following the incident. Emergency services, including fire engines and ambulances, were present during the evacuation but were stopped while the situation was resolved.
