Candace Owens says she has no plans to run for president in 2028, but she already knows who she would support if a race were formed. On June 4, Owens spoke at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, publicly endorsing Tucker Carlson as the candidate she would like to see run for president. The podcast host made the remarks during an interview with former CNN anchor Rick Sanchez, who now lives in Moscow. Owens attended the event along with several big names including Steven Seagal and Andrew Tate. When Sanchez raised speculation about his political future, Owens quickly rejected the idea. She said she had little interest in working within a traditional political system and joked that she would rather be a dictator than president.“I always tell my listeners that I will never run for president, I will only run for a dictator because I don’t deal with Congress, I don’t deal with lobbying, I don’t deal with any of that, I don’t deal with Lindsey Graham calling for another war,” Owens said.“I would say, ‘This is what we are doing and this is what we are not doing.’ So I told them, if the terms are acceptable, vote for me: I will be the dictator of the United States and that’s it,” she added.
While ruling out herself from running for president, Owens made it clear that she would have Tucker Carlson’s support if he decided to enter politics.“In the short term, I really have no interest in running for office because there’s so much that’s untrue and, you know, Trump is so disappointing,” Owens said. She then explained why she believes Carlson could be a strong candidate.“I’m interested in backing a guy like Tucker Carlson strongly, though. Would you like to? I will. So I want him to run and I’m going to create the momentum that Charlie and I have and do everything we can to help get him elected,” Owens said.Owens also spoke about the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was killed in September 2025. She praised Carlson and Megyn Kelly while discussing who she trusted following Kirk’s death.“I’d also say Megyn Kelly, who told the truth about Charlie changing his views at the end – just made me more determined,” Owens said.Of Carlson, she added, “He’s also in a great stage of his life. His kids are older. I’d love to support someone like Tucker Carlson.”Carlson, however, has repeatedly downplayed talk of a presidential campaign. In a recent interview with The Economist, he said he was “certainly” not interested in seeking the Republican nomination. He also told Piers Morgan that he was “disgusted” by politics and that “building alliances” was not his thing.Even so, prediction market Polymarket recently put his chances of winning the 2028 Republican presidential nomination at nearly 10%, keeping his name in the discussion despite his public reluctance.
