New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi A letter was written to the people of West Bengal on the occasion of ‘Poira Bhoishah’ on Wednesday to extend greetings and express gratitude to Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government.In the letter, the prime minister accused the state government of corruption, improper governance and failure to protect the rights of ordinary citizens.
“For the past 15 years, West Bengal has witnessed tyranny, chaos and corruption, depriving common people of their basic rights, dignity and the rich cultural heritage of the country,” Prime Minister Modi said. He added that the current environment undermined “the safety of mothers and sisters, employment opportunities for young people and the rights of the poor”.Invoking the state’s legacy, Prime Minister Modi said West Bengal had shown a new direction to the country and called for collective resolve to build a “developed West Bengal”.“Let us all come together and commit to building a ‘developed West Bengal’ where the poor no longer go hungry, everyone has access to food, women feel safe and can step out of their homes without fear and young people do not have to leave the state in search of jobs,” he said.The Prime Minister also linked the future of the state to the outcome of the upcoming assembly elections, claiming that the BJP government will put West Bengal back on the path of development.“I assure you that after the formation of the BJP government in the state, West Bengal will join hands with the rest of the country on the path of development and regain its historical status as a ‘developed country’,” he wrote.Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast the election as a defining moment, urging voters to “make the right decisions”, calling it a “battle between truth and lies” and calling for participation in what he called “a grand celebration of democracy”.The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the people of West Bengal will support the BJP and achieve what he termed a “historic victory”.West Bengal is scheduled to go to polls in two phases on April 23 and 29, with the closing date being May 4. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory, winning 213 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party won 77 seats. The Congress and the Left failed to open their accounts.
