Laura Loomer claims trip to Italy amid SPLC fraud charges, feud intensifies

On April 21, 2026, a federal grand jury in Alabama indicted programmable logic controller Eleven counts of bank fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and wire fraud. Prosecutors said the group allegedly diverted more than $3 million in donations to informants who occasionally fueled extremist activities.

However, the SPLC claims the charges are politically motivated and intends to challenge them in court.

After Trump’s post, far-right activist Laura Loomer issued a statement claiming that Owens and political commentator Nick Fuentes traveled to Italy around the same time, a day after “the Department of Justice indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for fraud.”

Loomer’s post on X, citing unnamed sources, said Owens flew from North Carolina to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. She also pointed to images online showing Fuentes in Italy.

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Owens’ “stock has never been very high, but it has dropped significantly.” He added that her comments directed at France’s first lady were “despicable”. He further described her as “a person of extremely low IQ” while noting that his criticism was “unsubstantiated.”

Trump also shared a photo of Candace Owens without makeup and wearing a headscarf on her head. The photo appeared on the cover of Time magazine with the headline “The Baddest Person of the Year.”

Owens’ profile picture was surrounded by phrases like “Candace Owens lies lies lies lies” and “use rich white people.” The cover also reads “0% fact-checking rate on all trusted fact-checking sites” and “Protect sex offenders!”
