Towson University: Maryland campus shooting sparks panic; first details

“100 BLK CROSS CAMPUS DR. unit is on scene 1 GSW VIC. Ems responding. Please use caution and expect delays with emergency crews in the area,” a local news outlet stated at Facebook. “The incident occurred in the stairwell of Tower C. One victim was taken to the hospital on the ground,” they continued.

another person wrote “Towson, MD (Baltimore County) | Shooting/stabbing | 156 Cross Campus Dr | Police Department victim suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg in the stairwell of the Glen Complex on campus | March 133 | 21:37. “The man was shot in the leg when the gun accidentally discharged.

The person’s condition is unclear at this time. The authorities have not officially commented on the matter.

About X person wrote “Accidental injury to the leg in the stairwell of Towson State College, 156 Cross Campus Drive Glen Complex.”

Towson University: Reaction to reports of shooting

Some people are reacting to reports of the shooting at Towson University. One person noted that it was time for campus events, saying “Tiger Day weekend is coming up. Today is Yard Day.” Another added: “My daughter was there. She was scared.”

Others noted that they needed to tell someone close to them about the shooting. Also alone wrote “Please remember my alma mater. Apparently there was a shooting on Towson University campus!”. They shared updates from local news outlets about the incident in Maryland.

Towson University: Are guns allowed?

Towson University has strict policies regarding weapons on campus. Just its Official pageit says “Towson University prohibits the possession or control of any weapons on university property.” The rationale provided is – “To promote campus safety, Towson University restricts the carrying of weapons on campus.”

It defines a weapon as “any potentially dangerous object or substance, including but not limited to any firearm (including any weapon or instrument capable of firing a bullet, projectile or other object with force, whether operable or inoperable, loaded or unloaded)”; any BB Guns, pellet guns, air rifles, paint guns or any imitation firearms, swords (including decorative swords) or other martial arts weapons; any bomb (or other explosive material), knife (other than an ordinary pocket knife in the closed position with a blade three inches or less in length), switchblade, billy sticks, nunchucks, blackjacks, sticks, metal knuckles, slingshots, razors or ice picks; illegal or potentially dangerous chemicals, fireworks or any instrument that by its nature or the circumstances of its existence could reasonably be construed as a weapon.

The university noted that there are exceptions to the rules regarding weapons on campus. Towson University’s sworn peace officers and other sworn peace officers employed by public agencies are authorized to wear, carry, or transport weapons as part of their official equipment, subject to exceptions to this rule. The policy document states that the University Police Department must approve these exceptions.
