New Delhi: In a bid to enhance preparedness in radiological and nuclear emergencies, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Wednesday inaugurated the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Field Training and Demonstration Center at Delhi’s Brahri Plains. The center, inaugurated by DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat, will be a unique DRDO-CBRN center of excellence with state-of-the-art facilities. These include dedicated radiological and nuclear test bed facilities and heavy ion research facilities, as well as emergency medical response and real-time on-site response units. The Radiological and Nuclear Test Bed Facility provides a specialized controlled environment to test, validate and demonstrate technologies related to nuclear energy, radiation detection and hazardous materials management. These facilities provide the necessary infrastructure for nuclear science research and development, materials testing and emergency response training. This helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical training to deal with unconventional threats. The center is part of the upcoming CBRN Center of Excellence at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) and is dedicated to the effective training of responders from the Department of Defense, Home Affairs, NDMA and various other agencies involved in CBRN emergency preparedness and crisis response.
