TMC, BJP supporters clash during election campaign in Hooghly, West Bengal; FIR lodged

New Delhi: Supporters of Trinamool Congress and alliance bjp Clashes broke out at a campaign event in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Friday, news agency ANI reported.Biman Ghosh, the BJP candidate from Pursurah parliamentary constituency, claimed that four party members suffered minor injuries in the incident. He also said that an FIR was being lodged with the local police station.Speaking to ANI, Ghosh accused TMC workers of disrupting the campaign and warned of strong election results for the BJP. “They (TMC members) created ruckus during the campaign; they must also realize what awaits them after the 4th when the ‘tsunami’ of the BJP sweeps across Bengal. They had better correct their ways before it is too late,” he said. Four of our workers sustained minor injuries and we are filing a case with the police.”The incident comes as campaigning ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections intensifies, with both sides trading sharp political attacks.Earlier on Friday, the ruling Trinamool Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party entered into a war of words over the BJP’s recently released Bengal Sankalp Patra. The document, themed “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bangla), outlines proposed governance shifts with a focus on national security, youth employment and women’s security.Union Home Minister releases declaration in Kolkata Amit Shah It is described as a roadmap to transform the country’s governance and align it with the broader vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.Shah also criticized the Trinamool Congress government, saying its 15-year rule had led to a breakdown in law and order and triggered widespread public dissatisfaction. The manifesto, he said, was aimed at lifting “every region of Bengal out of despair” and offering “a new way forward for farmers surrounded by fear”.He further claimed that the people of the state are “fearful and disillusioned” and are seeking change, reiterating that the BJP’s governance model is in line with the state’s development vision.Polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
