'The crickets helped me catch her': Indian-origin man saves three-year-old girl who fell from London window ledge

A three-year-old girl was rescued after hanging from the ledge of a building in east London for at least nine minutes, with a police officer and a member of the public catching her as she fell. The incident happened in Ilford High Road on Tuesday afternoon, with onlookers raising the alarm after spotting the child clinging to a window above a pawn shop.Video shared on social media showed a crowd gathering below as the girl struggled to hold on. A woman can be seen reaching out from a lower window while onlookers shout for help.As the child’s grip weakened, a police officer stood on the ledge beneath her. Soon after, local resident Mohamed Jesil climbed over a nearby rooftop to join the rescue operation. The pair moved directly underneath the girl before she lost control and fell. Jessel caught her while police helped stabilize them while spectators in the street below cheered.Jessel, a restaurant manager and father of five-month-old twins, later explained that he rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion. He told Metro: “I instinctively ran out. I’m a dad to five-month-old twins and as a dad I just reacted.“I wasn’t scared, I just wasn’t expecting it. I’m not a hero, I just did it as a father who saw a kid in trouble.”Describing the moments after his rescue, he said everyone was “relieved” and revealed the girl gave him “a big hug”.Jasir also credited his sports background for helping him with his catches, saying: “I played cricket in India, so that probably helped my catches. I just knew I had to focus. “The girl’s father described the officer and Jessel as “amazing heroes” and said his daughter was not injured.“They’re all amazing. They’re all heroes. We’re relieved,” he said. “They saved our children.”He added that the girl was recovering well and was expected to return to school the next day.The father said Jessel was a “complete stranger” to the family and expressed gratitude for his actions. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Ilford High Road shortly after 3.20pm after reports of a child lying on a window sill.Within minutes, an officer on scene and a member of the public were able to get the girl to safety, according to police.Police said the child was not injured.
