Texas election results: Who won the Senate, gubernatorial and attorney general primaries? Ken Paxton vs John Cornyn Winner

Texas voters head to the polls on Tuesday for high-stakes primary runoffs. The Republican U.S. Senate runoffs have drawn intense national attention as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton challenges four-term incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

president Donald Trump Backed Paxton late in the game, calling him a “real MAGA warrior.”

“Ken is a true Make America Great Again fighter who has always served the state of Texas and will continue to do so in the United States Senate,” the president said on The Truth Society.

Trump added: “The highly respected Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, America’s number one patriot who has been fiercely loyal to me and our amazing and great movement, is running for the United States Senate to represent the place I love and won three elections in 2024 with 6.4 million votes (the most in state history to date)!”

United States Senate

republican runoff: according to nbc news According to projections, Ken Paxton defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn, winning 62.6% of the vote (518,807 votes) to Cornyn’s 37.4% (310,284 votes).

Democratic candidate: State Rep. James Talarico clinched the Democratic nomination after defeating a host of candidates, including Rep. jasmine crockett in the early primaries.

governor

Gov. Greg Abbott easily won the Republican nomination in the March 3 primary, receiving about 82% of the vote as he sought a fourth term.

On the Democratic side, state Rep. Gina Hinojosa won the nomination in a multi-candidate race with about 59 percent support.

Attorney General (vacant seat)

Because Paxton chose to run for Senate rather than seek re-election as attorney general, the race to replace him became one of the most hotly contested races in the state.

republican runoff: State Sen. Mayes Middleton leads with about 57% of the vote, ahead of Rep. Chip Roy, who received about 43%, according to early results from NBC News.

Democratic runoff: State Sen. Nathan Johnson leads former Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski by about 60% to 40%.

In the Democratic runoffs, state Rep. Vikki Goodwin is a distant second with about 69 percent support, with Marcos Isaias Velez trailing at about 31 percent.

Current Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick easily won the Republican nomination earlier this year.

The key to victory in the U.S. House of Representatives

Several notable congressional runoffs have also captured Texas’ attention:

District 18 (D): Christian Menefee is projected to defeat Rep. Al Green with nearly 69% of the vote.

District 33 (Democrat): Colin Allred leads Julie Johnson by about 55%.

District 35 (Democrat): Johnny Garcia leads with about 59% of the vote.

District 35 (Republican): Lujan leads narrowly with about 51-52% of the vote.
