Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the meeting in a defiant tone, asserting her intention to stay in office while calling for a symbolic protest. She said she would not resign as chief minister but wait for the governor to be sacked. She urged her party members to protest against what she termed “Black Day” and asked them to wear black on the first day of the rally in West Bengal.
“I will not resign after the Bengal India team is united now. Let them sack me. I hope this is a black day. We must be strong. On the first day of Parliament, wear black. Those who betray will be expelled from the party. I am laughing. I defeated them morally. I am a free bird. I work for all,” she said, according to news agency ANI.
She also alleged widespread fraud and intimidation during the election and claimed several party workers were targeted.
“Those losers were forcibly defeated. I condemn the West Bengal Police, the CRPF, the BJP-minded Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission. More than 1,500 party offices were hijacked. I was heckled and pushed. I feel chest pain,” sources added.
After the meeting, the party posted relevant news on its official X account. The company said in a post on X that the Kalighat meeting was aimed at motivating its leadership cadre. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee “instilled in them clarity, confidence, faith and a new sense of purpose to continue the good fight,” the statement said.

The statement said the meeting focused on strengthening unity, responding to alleged irregularities during the election and outlining the party’s future political strategy.
The TMC further asserted that it will continue to fight against what it describes as the “tyranny and oppression of the BJP”, suggesting that it will play an active opposition role even as it regroups after the election results.
