Telangana: K Kavitha will launch new regional political party today to pay tribute to Telangana martyrs
New Delhi: Ahead of the launch of her new political party, K Kavitha on Saturday paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the 1969 Telangana statehood movement at the Amaraveerula Stupam in Gun Park, Hyderabad.Nearly seven months after leaving the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, former President’s daughter Kavitha Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will launch a new regional political body to focus on what she calls Telangana’s “aspirations and unfinished agenda”.Speaking to ANI on Friday, Kavitha said that she and her supporters were expelled from BRS and did not leave voluntarily.“The BRS party was formed to fulfill the regional aspirations of Telangana but they changed their name, work and the soul of the party which led to a break in their connect with the people. When a political party strays from its fundamental core issues, it cannot survive. We need a regional party to fulfill the unfinished agenda and aspirations of Telangana and this will be our party,” she said. She also spoke about her tense relationship with the party led by her father, saying, “The BRS party, of which my father is chairman, has expelled us. We have not left them, neither the family nor the party has left. We have been expelled. I don’t want to talk about this. But I am a daughter of Telangana. I have Telangana blood and courage. We are very stubborn and very committed to our goals. We have spent 20 years of our lives in the agitation of Telangana.” To develop Telangana, to fulfill its aspirations, whether we have our old party or not, whether our families are with us or not, I believe the people of Telangana are my family. The fragrance of Telangana soil will inspire us forward. “Kavitha left BRS after months of internal conflict. In September 2025, she was suspended from the party for alleged anti-party activities after publicly criticizing senior leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Rao.After their suspension, she accused Harish Rao and Santosh Rao of working with Telangana Chief Minister Ravensh Reddy to “plan to destroy our family and party”. She later resigned from the MLC post.Kavitha officially quit BRS in January 2026 and later founded Telangana Jagruthi, which has now become a platform for her return to the political front.
