Tamil Nadu polls: Vijay launches TVK manifesto; announces free cooking gas cylinders, Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women
New Delhi: A week ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in which all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu go to polls, Tamil Nadu party chief Vijay on Thursday unveiled the party’s manifesto.Counting of votes will take place on May 4.The actor and politician founded TVK in February 2024, announcing the following in his manifesto:
- Monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 for women, 8 g gold assistance for marriages
- Interest-free loan of up to Rs 5 lakh to women-run SHGs and Rs 15,000 per annum to prevent school dropouts
- 50% reduction in crop loans for farmers’ agricultural cooperatives over 5 acres
- Artificial Intelligence Department, Artificial Intelligence University, Artificial Intelligence City
- Assistance of up to Rs 4,000 per month to unemployed graduates
- 500,000 subsidized internships and 500,000 new government jobs
- Rs 3,000 pension for senior citizens and disabled persons
- 200 units of free power
- 25 Lakhs health insurance for families, modern hospitals, free annual health check-ups and drug-free Tamil Nadu
- Paddy is sold at minimum price of Rs 3,500 per quintal and sugarcane at Rs 4,500 per tonne
- Consider old pension scheme, regularization of contract workers including nurses
- 6 free cooking gas bottles per household per year
Earlier, TVK general secretary N Anand announced that the number of “authorized persons” attending the event would be capped at 800 people in strict compliance with the Election Commission guidelines.He added that only staff who issued a specific QR code pass could enter, and unauthorized personnel were not allowed to enter.Pregnant women, children, students, the elderly, people with disabilities and people with health conditions are particularly advised to avoid visiting the venue. Instead, the party urged supporters and the public to watch the event via live broadcast on television and social media platforms.(with PTI input)
