NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister race gathers pace on Thursday Udayanidhi Stalin Nominations from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, while actor-politician Vijay also from Trichy East has joined the fray.Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, was nominated as DMK Candidates and held a roadshow on their way to the Returning Officer’s office. He is the current MP for this constituency and is working with Artificial Intelligence ADMK Candidate Adiraja Ram.“We will create history and this time we will win. Our leader will become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the second time,” he told reporters.In the 2021 election, he won the seat by 69,355 votes. On Wednesday, Udhayanidhi also announced welfare measures including Rs 8,000 coupons on household items such as televisions, refrigerators and washing machines. He said laptops have been provided to 1 million college students.
TVK President and actor vijay Nominations were filed from Trichy East constituency on Friday. He filed from the Perampur seat earlier on Monday and is currently contesting in two constituencies.He will face DMK candidate RD Sekar in Perambur and Inigo S Irudayaraj in Trichy East. A large number of party workers gathered at the Tiruchirappalli airport to greet him before submitting the documents.Earlier, Vijay released his party manifesto promising to set up anti-drug sanctuaries in schools and colleges. “Our primary objective is to create a drug-free Tamil Nadu,” he said.Tamil Nadu will conduct single-phase polling in all 234 constituencies on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.
