Acting Attorney General Todd Branch said he didn’t know why Pam Bondi was fired.

Acting Attorney General Todd Branch held his first press conference since President Donald Trump fired Pam Bondi last week and said he didn’t know why Bondi was fired. But he said he would be happy to serve as permanent attorney general if the president decided. It would be an honor, he said. Pam Bundy was supposed to step into her role during the transition, but Todd Branch’s press conference suggested Bundy may have been making an unceremonious exit. “Nobody but President Trump knows why the attorney general is no longer attorney general and I am acting attorney general,” Branch said.“I don’t try to guess what President Trump or anyone else is thinking every day. “I’m doing everything I need to do every day to carry out the president’s agenda and priorities,” Branch said at a news conference outlining the anti-fraud plan. “I’m tired of people in the media saying why President Trump did or didn’t do something because President Trump is the only one who knows that.“If President Trump chooses to keep me in acting capacity, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate someone else and I return as DAG, that’s an honor,” Branch said. “If he had chosen to nominate someone else and asked me to do something else, I would have said, ‘Thank you so much. I love you, sir.'”It is believed Bondi was fired because Trump was dissatisfied with the way the Justice Department handled the Epstein file. Trump wants the department to more aggressively go after his enemies. Branch said earlier in an interview with Fox that he never heard the president say today that Bundy was fired because of the Epstein dossier. “The Epstein dossier is a saga that has continued over the past year. When the president signed the transparency bill, the Department of Justice has now released all documents related to the Epstein saga,” Branch said.
