‘Stealing from family business’: Truck driver snatches $3000 of fuel from Sydney petrol station

A Sydney petrol station owner is furious after a truck driver allegedly filled up multiple tanks before driving off without paying, stealing nearly $3,000 worth of fuel in one incident.The theft took place at a petrol station in Cranebrook, near Penrith, where owner Anthony Pincevic said the driver spent about 10 minutes filling up before leaving without paying.Pincevic claimed the driver moved between several gas pumps, refilled the truck’s tank and used on-site facilities to clean the vehicle before driving away with an estimated $2,800 to $3,000 worth of fuel.He told 9News the incident was particularly upsetting because it seemed so random.“People come here and they think it’s a big brand site, so it doesn’t matter,” he said.He added: “But this is actually a family business. You are stealing from us.”He added that fuel theft had become more common, putting more pressure on the industry’s already tight margins.“We’re trying to keep prices fair, but the margins are very thin,” he said.The NRMA’s industry commentator Peter Khoury said fuel prices remained volatile and wholesale changes continued to impact what drivers paid at the pump.“The only thing that’s certain right now is how volatile things are,” he said, referring to recent swings in fuel costs.Pinchevich has reported the incident to police but said progress has been slow. He is now offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify the driver.
