A shooting was reported at Springfield Town Center, 6500 Springfield Mall, Springfield, virginia on Friday. Fairfax County Police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel are on the scene of a reported shooting at the Springfield Mall, also known as the “Springfield Mall.” downtown springfield.

A statement from the Fairfax Police Department said, “Officers are on the scene of a non-fatal shooting in the 6500 block of Springfield Mall. An adult male victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A gun was recovered at the scene and the suspect is in custody.” They added, “The scene is safe and there is no further threat to the mall. Please follow our blog for any additional updates. Please call 911 with information.”

X, a local independent news outlet, reported that the victim’s condition was unclear.

“A heavy law enforcement presence is expected in and around the mall as police secure the scene and conduct investigations,” the post added.

Authorities also reportedly shared the first details about the suspect. The person was reportedly a Hispanic male wearing all black clothing and a moose knuckle jacket. “Further suspicious details have not been provided at this time,” the post added.

One person shared a video from the mall showing a police presence and the apparent crime scene being cordoned off. People at the scene said someone was injured, the person in the video said.

Others report shooting at Springfield mall

Others also reported the shooting X. “Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Fairfax County Police received reports of a shooting at Springfield Town Center. The victim was found in the mall shooting. The injuries are not life-threatening. Police are still looking for the suspect.” Platform Manager, NBC Washington wrote.

Another independent news site noted, “@FairfaxCountyPD is on scene investigating a shooting at the mall and found one person suffering from a gunshot wound.”

On Facebook, someone else wrote “There is a heavy police presence in downtown Springfield, Virginia.” An independent reporter added, “@FairfaxCountyPD and @ffxfirerescue are on scene of a shooting that left one person injured at the Springfield Mall/Downtown Springfield.”

Several people were reacting to reports of a shooting at a Springfield mall. One person complained: “All the malls are closing, the last decent mall is closing and they are trying to destroy it.”
