Southgate Fire: Smoke from massive industrial fire blankets Los Angeles; video emerges

A massive commercial structure fire broke out in South Gate, California on Sunday, sending thick black smoke billowing into parts of the Los Angeles area.

Videos circulating online showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Officials have not released details about the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the building.

Authorities have not confirmed whether nearby businesses have been evacuated as a precaution.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters are still on scene working to control the blaze.

eyewitness reports

Several witnesses and local residents reported the incident on social media.

One person wrote, “Los Angeles County is interesting right now. In addition to the Garden Grove incident, there are two huge fire plumes in the area. One appears to be near the port and the other east of Highway 605. Does anyone know what the fires are?”

Another added, “Unfortunate structure fire in South Downey area. Hope everyone can get out before it gets too big.”

Garden Grove chemical spill

The South Gate fire comes as officials continue to respond to another chemical spill crisis in Garden Grove, about 28 miles away. Authorities stressed that the two incidents were not related.
