Millions of Social Security recipients in the United States are preparing for their March 2026 payments as the Social Security Administration (SSA) adheres to its monthly benefit distribution calendar.
However, this month’s scheduled payment date falls on a weekend. As a result, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries have significant uncertainty about how their monthly funds will be distributed.
According to the SSA’s official schedule, SSI will be paid out early due to the weekend schedule, while Social Security retirement, disability insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits will follow the standard calendar related to date of birth.

SSA Key March Payment Dates
Since the first day of March falls on a Sunday this year, the customary dates have been changed, with some beneficiaries receiving some payments before March officially begins.
for SSI For recipients, March payments arrived early on Friday, February 27th. Due to SSA rules, payments normally scheduled for the weekend will be moved to the previous business day.
For retirement, SSDI and survivor benefits, the SSA follows its long-established schedule, which is based on the beneficiary’s birthday or, in some cases, when the beneficiary first became eligible.
- Tuesday, March 3: Beneficiaries who applied for benefits before May 1997, or who receive both Social Security retirement benefits and SSI, will see checks issued.
- Wednesday, March 11: Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive a payment.
- Wednesday, March 18: Payment date for people born between the 11th and 20th.
- Wednesday, March 25: Recipients born between the ages of 21 and 31.

What should I do if I don’t see my SSA payment on my scheduled date?
The SSA advises that those who do not receive an electronic payment by the specified date should first contact their bank or financial institution, noting that “payments may be delayed.”
