Supreme Court The Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh Supreme Council on Thursday stayed a ruling that nullified the victory of Congress MLA Mukesh Malhotra in the 2024 by-polls, reports Suchandana Gupta.
The apex committee annulled the results of the assembly by-elections on the request of Malhotra’s closest rival, the BJP’s Ram Niwas Rawat, claiming that Malhotra had not disclosed the criminal case against him in his poll affidavit.
Taking into account the Congress’ challenge to the Supreme Council’s ruling, the Supreme Council upheld Malhotra’s status as MLA from Vijaypur constituency, but with conditions: he shall not vote during RS polls, shall not participate in Assembly polls, shall not receive MP’s salary and benefits, and shall not receive funds under MLLADS. However, he will remain the Vijaypur MLA till the final verdict of the SC. tennessee
