Savannah Hilton Head International Airport: Fire breaks out near runway; horrific videos emerge

WSAV reports that this is due to grass fireciting airport officials. The 165th National Guard is reportedly responding. AIRPORT Operations have not yet been affected.

“A passenger at Savannah Hilton Head International Airport just sent me video of a fire. I’m trying to learn more about what happened. The passenger told me he saw the fire department on scene and that his flight was delayed,” one person wrote.

A WSAV reporter also shared the image.

Grass fires have also been captured by people on planes.

“We were so impressed with the crew on @Delta 1067 out of Savannah that they got us back safely after the engine burned out. They even told us not to worry about grass fires! Things happen and that’s why you fly Delta. The best trained crew in the industry,” they wrote.

one person ask If the grass fire was caused by a burned-out engine on a Delta flight, it would be on X. However, the cause of the fire is not yet clear.

Previously, Savannah-Hilton Head Airport measured wind gusts of 59 mph. WJCL News Wind warning in effect for southeast Georgia and lowcountry areas into Sunday night, meteorologists say shared. The National Weather Service in Charleston, South Carolina, also confirmed wind speeds.

One person commented on Facebook: “Just read that a Delta jet lost an engine in the woods. Not sure how accurate that is. But it could explain the grass fire.” Many expressed concern about the wind speed. “I hope they can get the situation under control. Today’s high winds are no joke!” said a person familiar with the situation.

“Today is a terrible day to light a fire. The wind is howling,” another commented. Others prayed: “Praying that everyone is safe, including emergency landing flights and situations involving fire, including fire and emergency personnel.”

While there has been speculation that this was a controlled burn, there is no indication that this was the case. Many also pointed out that a controlled burn would not be suitable in the first place given the wind speed.
