Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has announced that Tuesday, June 16, is the first day of Hijri 1448 and the beginning of the Islamic New Year.The news comes after the sighting of the Muharram crescent moon on Monday night.The UAE also recognizes Tuesday as the first day of Muharram and the beginning of the Islamic year 1448. The UAE Fatwa Committee said it made the decision after reviewing scientific data related to the crescent moon observation in coordination with specialized scientific institutions and centers across the country.Ashura, the 10th day of every month, is expected to fall on Thursday, June 25, with the start of Muharram.Hijri New Year marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and is used to determine important religious dates and observances throughout the year.The festival commemorates Hijra, the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina, an event considered a defining moment in Islamic history and the starting point of the Islamic calendar.In its statement, the Saudi Supreme Court also prayed for the continued success of King Salman, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, as well as for the unity and solidarity of Muslims around the world.(This is a popular topic on Google Trends.)
