Chennai Super Kings are back on track in the IPL with their reliable opener Sanju Samson returning to form at the right time as the team builds momentum. Samson has hit two centuries so far this season and scored 402 runs in 10 innings. In yesterday’s match against Delhi Capitals, he scored an unbeaten 87 off 52 balls to help CSK win by 8 wickets and was awarded the Man of the Match award. He also wrote history and became the first-ever batsman to score more than two hundred runs with Delhi Capitals in a single tournament. On May 5, in IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings kept their hopes of making it to the playoffs alive with an eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After restricting DC to 155/7 on a sluggish surface, CSK easily chased down the target in just 17.3 overs. Capitals struggled throughout the game despite falling behind with Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs at 69/5 after a mid-order collapse. Led by Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad, CSK’s disciplined bowling attack never allowed DC to gather momentum. In reply, Sanju Samson struck an unbeaten knock of 87 off 52 balls to seal the chase with authority. Youngster Kartik Sharma provided excellent support and the duo combined for an unbeaten century partnership of 114 runs to hand CSK a comfortable victory with 15 balls remaining. The defeat moved Delhi closer to elimination, while CSK moved back into fifth place in the playoff race after a strong late season run. This is the second time this season that Sanju Samson has played more than 100 matches together, against the same team Delhi Capitals. This was Chennai Super Kings’ fifth century partnership against Delhi Capitals, but Sanju Samson stood out as the first batsman to score a double century with DC in the same IPL season. Ruturaj Gaikwad, meanwhile, holds the record for most 100-match appearances against Delhi and has done so three times in different seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023).
