OpenAI CEO’s home Sam AltmanThe place where he and his family lived was hit by a firebomb. Police have reportedly arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attacking the AI boss’s luxury home in San Francisco. “I wrote this this morning and I wasn’t sure if I was actually going to post it, but here it is,” Altman tweeted at the launch of his blog on X.

“Here is a photo my family. “I love them more than anything,” he wrote, along with a photo of his husband, Oliver Mulherin, and their children.
“I want images to have power. Normally we try to keep it as private as possible, but in this case, I’m sharing a photo in the hope that it will deter the next person from throwing a Molotov cocktail at our house, no matter what they think of me,” Altman continued. “The first person did it last night, at 3:45 in the morning. Fortunately, it bounced off the house and no one was injured. “
Altman said the alleged attack may be related to his role in the artificial intelligence industry and broader tensions surrounding the technology.
“Words have power too. There was an inflammatory article written about me the other day. Someone said to me yesterday that they thought this was coming at a time when people are very anxious about artificial intelligence, which makes things even more dangerous for me. I put it aside,” he shared.
He further added, “Now I wake up in the middle of the night angry, thinking I underestimated the power of words and narrative.“
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Alejandro Daniel Moreno-Gama, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. He allegedly fled the scene and then threw a Molotov cocktail at Sam Altman’s home.
The San Francisco Police Department revealed that about an hour after the incident, authorities were called to the OpenAI headquarters on Third Street after a man allegedly threatened to set the building on fire.
Police recognized this man as the same suspect in the Sam Altman House incident and took him into custody.

“Much of the criticism of our industry comes from genuine concerns about the incredibly high risks of this technology. This is very valid and we welcome good-faith criticism and debate. I sympathize with the anti-tech sentiment and clearly technology is not always good for everyone. But overall, I believe technological advances can lead to an incredibly bright future for your family and mine,” he wrote, adding, “While we debate this, we should tone down the escalation of rhetoric and tactics and try to reduce the explosion, both figuratively and literally, in fewer homes.“
