New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and federal interior minister Amit Shah Paying homage to the Bharatiya Janata Party workers who were allegedly killed in the post-2021 West Bengal assembly election violence on Saturday, said their sacrifices will continue to inspire generations of party workers.A makeshift memorial to commemorate the slain BJP workers was erected near the stage at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where Suvendu Adhikari and his council of ministers took oath earlier in the day.The monument displays the names of the “martyrs” and the region to which they belong.PM Modi posted a picture of the memorial onTheir sacrifices will forever be etched in the BJP’s journey, Modi said, adding, “Their courage will remain a source of strength for all of us.”Shah also shared a video of the memorial and said it stirred “deep emotions” among party workers at the swearing-in venue.“This monument stirred deep emotions in the hearts of every worker at the oath taking place,” Shah wrote onHe added: “The sacrifice, struggle and martyrdom of these noble souls have finally been realized today.”“Salute to all the martyrs who gave their all for the country and the organization,” Shah said.BJP West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya claimed that more than 300 BJP workers were killed by “TMC goons” in the violence that broke out after the 2021 election results.“They were killed for daring to dream of bringing change in Bengal. We cannot forget their sacrifice on this day,” said Bhattacharya, who is also a member of the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Modi also shared a picture of his meeting with Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the most senior functionaries of the BJP in the state, calling him an “inspirational figure” and said he would continue to inspire people from all walks of life to join the party.During the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari as the ninth chief minister of West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted the blessings of Makhanlal Sarkar, one of the most senior functionaries of the state’s BJP. He greeted Makanlal Sarkar, gave him a shawl and accepted his blessings.At 98, Makhanlal Sarkar remains one of the early grassroots figures of India’s post-independence nationalist movement.Prime Minister Modi said in a post on No effort will be spared to realize his vision. “He said, “I had the opportunity to meet Shri Makhanlal Sarkar Ji during the swearing-in ceremony in Kolkata. He was a devout nationalist who worked with Dr Mukherjee and was even arrested in Jammu and Kashmir while accompanying Dr Mukherjee. He dedicated his life to our party, expanding its base to West Bengal and inspiring people from all walks of life to join the party.”
