Russia kills 17 in Ukraine missile and drone attacks

Russia launched one of its largest attacks on Ukraine so far this year, firing missiles and drones at Kiev and other major cities overnight, killing at least 17 people and injuring dozens more.Ukraine’s air defense agency said Russia launched more than 40 ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 650 drones of various types, calling it one of the worst attacks so far this year. Dnipro, Odessa, Kharkiv and Zaporozhye were attacked along with the capital.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters on Thursday during a visit to the Netherlands that the attack had killed 17 people. Ukraine and the Netherlands were discussing an anti-ballistic air defense system, he said, without elaborating. Children were among those killed in the barrage, which damaged much of the residential area, according to state emergency services and local authorities. In Kiev, police and medical personnel who came to rescue the injured were also injured in subsequent attacks, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Telegram. Russia often uses so-called double-tap attacks to target rescue workers responding to the initial attack. This is what Bloomberg reports
