Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffendaver spoke with retired FBI agent Robin Drake in a recording posted on her X profile.

Derek was asked about the Guthrie family. Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of “TODAY” host Savannah Guthriewas taken from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona. Although her family reported her missing on February 1, authorities believe she was taken the night before.

Since the crime came to light, much attention has been focused on the Guthrie family – siblings Savannah, Annie and Camron, and son-in-law Tommaso Sione. While Savannah already enjoyed celebrity status with her NBC show, Karen came into the spotlight when Savannah mentioned how he knew “right away” it was a kidnapping. Meanwhile, Annie and Tommaso’s attention turned to them after former NewsNation reporter Ashleigh Banfield claimed Cioni could be a suspect in the case.

It was previously reported that Guthrie had dinner with Annie the night before she was taken away, and that Sioney sent her home afterwards, making the two people who lived near Guthrie the last people to see her before she disappeared.

It’s worth noting that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation, has dismissed Banfield’s claims, and Sheriff Chris Nanos later clarified that no members of the Guthrie family were involved. While talking to Drake, Coffendaver mentioned what the family had to go through, with a lot of eyes on their every move.

Tommaso Cioni and Anne were involved in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping?

Coffendaver asked Derek about online theories about possible involvement of family members in the kidnapping. She asked what “hindered” what these online sleuths believed was evidence.

“Tell me what your research was and your background and why you don’t believe Anne and Tommaso were involved,” Coffendaver asked the former FBI agent. She quickly added that this is if agents truly believed they were not involved in the case.

Derek responded that it would be a “big break” in their behavior. Law enforcement experts explained that officers often always think of family first because “horrible things” done to family members are often committed by another member of the same family. Derek went on to explain that we look at aspects such as whether they have a healthy relationship or an unhealthy relationship and whether there are any unresolved issues between family members.

“Happy people don’t spy…Happy people don’t do crazy things,” Derek exclaims in the video. The former FBI agent added, “If anything bad happened, it was from an unhealthy relationship.”

Derek then draws attention to the people and relationships in Guthrie’s close circle. He spoke of conducting an “in-depth investigation” of Anne and Sione, conducting background checks and looking at prior records (if any), their relationship and patterns of behavior.

Speaking about Sione, Drake said his background was as a school teacher, had no problems with anyone, and played in a band. Derek also noted that he has been married for a while and seems to have a good relationship. Discussing Cione’s relationship with Guthrie, Drake noted that he “regularly invited his mother-in-law over for Saturday night dinners and games.”

“If there was a problem, it wouldn’t happen again,” the former FBI agent said. “I promise, this won’t happen,” he continued. When it comes to money matters, such as the money they might have received from Guthrie’s kidnapping, Drake reasoned that given the woman’s advanced age, it would be logical to wait and then receive the money as an inheritance. He also added that if a family member had entered Guthrie’s house, it would have been much easier than what was seen on camera.

Derek points out that while Sione and Annie may not be 100% innocent, 99.9% of the evidence shows they were not involved in any way. He also explained why the police might have detained Anne’s car for an extended period of time.

The former FBI agent said that given the proximity to Guthrie’s home, Anne was likely the one who set things up around Guthrie’s house and may also have used her car to transport workers, which could lead to forensic evidence pointing to an outsider who may have been involved in Guthrie’s abduction.

Derek said the only reason Sione and Annie might have come to the attention of law enforcement was because they were Guthrie’s caregivers, not because they were suspects. The former law enforcement official also said that if authorities want more information about Guthrie, they may turn to the people closest to her in her life — Anne and Sione.

So the dinner and ride home, which had always been the basis for the internet detectives’ suspicions about the pair, was overturned by Drake, who argued that the very setting of the dinner was a sign that all was well between Guthrie, Sione and Anne, thus removing all suspicion from the pair.
