Rs 100-crore difference: HC seeks replies from Vijay, EC, IT department

CHENNAI: “There appear to be some irregularities as around Rs 100 crore was not disclosed in the poll affidavit,” Madras HC said on Monday while directing actor and TVK founder Vijay, the IT department and the EC to respond to pleas alleging discrepancies.Vijay allegedly declared assets of Rs 115.13 crore in the affidavit filed in Perambur constituency and Rs 220.15 crore in Trichy (East) constituency. The court admitted the plea filed by Perampur electorate V Vignesh and postponed the hearing for a week to allow the authorities and Vijay to submit their responses.Vignesh said the plea was raised in exceptional circumstances wherein the disclosures made by Vijay in the statutory affidavit in Form 26 prescribed under Rule 4A of the Electoral Conduct Rules, 1961 were not only incomplete but also prima facie false, inconsistent with statutory records and showed that material financial information had been deliberately and systematically suppressed.
