The Minnesota Vikings announced the death of former defensive back Roniel Whitaker. He is 46 years old.
Whittaker died on Sunday, February 22, his family confirmed the news, releasing a statement describing him as a “beloved son, brother and friend.” His death comes one day after the Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore Suspected of self-harm and death gunshot wound exist Indiana 25 years old.
Whitaker’s cause of death has not been revealed by the Vikings or his family. His family said only that they were “saddened to share the passing of Whitaker,” who “lived a life filled with passion, perseverance and purpose,” according to the Vikings.

“Ronier went on to pursue his professional dreams in the National Football League, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2003. During his career, he also played for the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, and he later continued his football journey with the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers before retiring from professional football in 2010,” the family further said, adding that he was also “a defensive back” with Chanhassen from 2014-18. The family added that details about funeral arrangements and memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Moore died hours before Whitaker’s death. On the evening of Saturday, February 21, police in Moore’s hometown of New Albany, Indiana, were called and found him in a garage. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

Investigators said Moore was found in the garage with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said the investigation is ongoing, WLKY reported.
