Rockstar Games' two-word response after White House, Trump officials use GTA 6-style poster on social media accounts
White House and CBP use artificial intelligence to generate GTA VI posters

Rockstar Games has found itself at the center of political controversy after the White House and senior Trump administration officials used Grand Theft Auto VI-themed images to promote border security policies, sparking debate among gamers on social media and prompting a brief response from the game developer.Amid the growing controversy, gaming outlet Kotaku sought Rockstar’s reaction to the government’s use of its images. The company’s response was brief. A Rockstar spokesperson said: “No comment.”The feud started after Rockstar officially unveiled the cover art for GTA 6 and announced pre-orders for the highly anticipated game. As is common with Rockstar’s big marketing campaigns, the reveal turned into a cultural moment as brands, public figures, and social media users began creating their own versions of the artwork and logo.Among those joining the trend was the White House’s official social media account, which shared a GTA VI-style image featuring US President Donald Trump. The post quickly went viral, with many users pointing out the irony of a government account adopting imagery that has long questioned authority, law enforcement and a franchise that has long been a political institution. The discussion intensified when the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shared its own GTA-themed AI-generated images. The post, which features stylized agents, a CBP helicopter and a border landscape, says the government has effectively “secured the border” ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6’s release. The meme comes with a link to a Breitbart report showing border enforcement data provided by CBP. The article stated that the agency has achieved zero release of illegal immigrants captured at the US-Mexico border for 13 consecutive months. It also reported 9,998 apprehensions at the southwest border in May 2026, which CBP said was 94% lower than the monthly average during the Biden administration.“Tough border security measures implemented by the Trump administration have driven monthly illegal border crossing apprehensions to unprecedented levels,” the report said. The article also noted an increase in narcotics seizures, claiming that nationwide seizures of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl and marijuana increased by 32% compared to May 2024. According to reports, fentanyl seizures in May 2026 increased by 72% compared to April.MAGA supporters have praised the use of the viral GTA format to draw attention to law enforcement policies, and players have questioned whether taxpayer-funded government accounts should be posting internet memes and AI-generated images on such a sensitive issue. When U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has released an edited version of Rockstar’s GTA 6 reveal video. Sharing the video with the caption “Before GTA 6, we flipped the food pyramid,” Kennedy’s version featured himself, Trump and several AI-generated characters dressed as food.Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch in November 2026 and is expected to be one of the biggest entertainment games in history. It will succeed Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013 and became one of the best-selling video games of all time. According to publisher Take-Two Interactive, “GTA V” has sold more than 215 million copies worldwide over the past decade, generating billions of dollars in revenue.
