City officials confirmed this to WVLT reporter Kyle Grainger. “Officials confirm a bomb threat was received at the aquarium,” he wrote on Facebook.

“The Gatlinburg Aquarium is being evacuated,” a local reporter wrote.
The riot initially caused confusion and one person ask “Does anyone know what is going on in Gatlinburg, Tennessee right now? The aquarium was just evacuated by police.” They added, “The Gatlinburg Aquarium was just evacuated. Police blocked multiple exits.”
Gatlinburg Locals is on Facebook wrote “There was a bomb threat at the Gatlinburg Aquarium. I heard there was a bomb threat at Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg.” A WVLT reporter also confirmed the news. The Gatlinburg Police Department has not released a formal statement regarding the incident.

While it’s unclear if the threat is true, some people have reacted to reports of Ripley’s Aquarium being evacuated. “The Louisville Zoo in Kentucky was also just evacuated due to a bomb threat,” one person wrote, referring to another bomb threat. It’s worth noting that the zoo has received a number of bomb threats recently, but it turns out that these are all hoaxes.
“We are here. They evacuated everyone and blocked the road. There are about 20 police officers,” wrote one person claiming to be at the scene. Another added, “Praying for the safety of the animals, especially after the evacuation.” Another, who claimed to be nearby, added, “Just got back from there. We were walking down the street and the police took us away pretty quickly.”
Others spoke of the ongoing wave of bomb threats across the country. “West Tennessee just received two bomb threats last week. Bass Pro Pyramid in Memphis and a private high school in Jackson received bomb threats at the same time. Memphis and Jackson are an hour apart. This is weird,” one person wrote.
“I’m in Gatlinburg right now. There’s a couple of police, fire and ambulances going by,” another shared their experience. One person described the moment of the evacuation, saying “We were there and evacuated. The police said it was a bomb threat.”
