Rinku Singh appointed as RSO: Salary, responsibilities explained

New Delhi: Rinku Singh enjoyed double riches on Tuesday. First, he was appointed as the vice-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2026 IPL season and then as the district sports officer by the Uttar Pradesh government. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath awarded him the appointment letter for the post.Rinku has been a key player for KKR with his explosive batting and brilliant fielding. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2026 T20 World Cup. India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team in the title match in Ahmedabad to win the T20 World Cup for the third time, having previously won the title in 2007 and 2024.

Praising Rinku, CM Yogi said, “UP is the first state in the country to give priority to athletes in government services. So far, we have provided appointment letters to over 500 players for various police posts… Due to Rinku Singh’s performance in cricket and Asian Games, he has been awarded appointment letters as district sports officer. He was already part of a training camp (KKR camp in IPL), so he went there. Many other players have also received appointment letters here today.”Apart from Linku, the Uttar Pradesh government will also provide employment opportunities to six international medalists, including hockey player Rajkumar Pal, javelin thrower Ajit Singh, sprinter Simran and Paralympic gold medalist Praveen Kumar.Rinku, known for turning the game on its head, batting in any situation or condition and knocking bowlers out of the park as a finisher, will now also sit in the office and shape the future of sports and players in Uttar Pradesh.
