Reports claim that Iranian President Pezeshkian sent a resignation letter to the supreme leader over the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; officials deny the claim

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has submitted a letter of resignation to the Office of the Supreme Leader, Fox News reported, citing Iranian media reports. The report quoted an unnamed Iranian international source as saying that Pezeshkian stated in the letter that his government was excluded from Iran’s major decision-making process, while hardline factions within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) controlled key affairs. The report also stated that Pezeshkian wrote that he was unable to govern effectively or fulfill his legal responsibilities under such circumstances and therefore demanded his immediate resignation.Iran International also said it was unclear whether Supreme Leader Khamenei’s office would accept his resignation. However, an official in the Iranian presidential office denied the reports. Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy director of communications and information dissemination in the Office of the President, said: “The baseless and controversial statements about the president’s position by a young man seeking fame should not be taken seriously. The erroneous statement that “young people lack the ability to govern” should not be further deepened because of the childish behavior of a few wrong elements. Iran is full of young, thoughtful people, but they don’t have the opportunity for good management. “He dismissed reports of the resignation, adding: “The disinformation of this notorious foreign network is a continuation of previous absurd media games. They substitute their own wishful thinking for reality. President Pezeshkian will not give up serving the people, just as the Iranian nation will not retreat from the path of unity and resistance. They will take their desire to undermine the unity of the Iranian nation to their graves.”
